Access to Board Inside SRF
There is a post here saying that accessing this board is prevented or not allowed inside the ashram? Is that true? Does anyone know more about that?

Monastics and this board
As I understand it, Systems Department monitors use of the internet by monastics (and perhaps employees). And monastics would definitely not like to be caught using the board. There would be repurcussions.

Why be a monastic? The CIA pays better.

Repercussions?
Repercussions? They are already not paid, can’t leave their room (effectively), have to sit in the dark for hours and not talk, and have to dress weird. Just being funny of course.

So they are punished for thinking. What a state. I assume that post is true, my apologies if it is not. So what is the accepted way to think? Liberal or conservative? Are they allowed to think about environmental issues or does that have repercussions? Are they allowed to give blood? Help in community events? Volunteer at the Red Cross? Give money to the ACLU? Or are they just not allowed to be critical of SRF or see things that might be critical?

I suppose some of these people stay because they feel they are helping? They are afraid to leave and try to make it on their own? They are afraid of what people will think? What? Would they really not be allowed to see this board?

Monastic life
Monastics are not allowed internet access at all unless it is needed for their work assignment, approved by supervisor, counselor, etc. The reason being that the internet is worldly and you will not find God when your mind is on worldly things. Those who are assigned to monitor this website are apparently excused by God from this requirement. Actually, Croq, why don't you call SRF and ask them the questions you have posted here. Of course, they would give you the run around and hope you give up while waiting for a response -- a number one tactic to dodge questions.

The Monastic Problem
It's endemic to the role. Historically, monastics have always surrendered their right to be informed. They take a vow of obedience usually to someone external to self. Inevitably this type of power differential leads to censorship.

If a monastic abdicates his right to be informed, what's left for him to do? The only defense left for a monastic is to detect when someone is contradicting themselves. When people indulge in contradictions flagrantly, that's a real clue of a power grab. Therefore, monastics, in the sanctity of their own minds, can observe contradictions as well as the ways they're being controlled, but they are not permitted to do anything about it.

One has to wonder why one would want to be a monastic in the first place. To seek God? Sure. But what else? What unconscious motive would drive a person to put his life permanently in the hands of another in unquestioned obedience? Even our guru didn't do this. In fact, can you name any saints mentioned in the AY who were monastics their whole lives -- that is, lived in an ashram under strict obedience forever? Now tell me how many saints Guruji mentions who were independent free thinkers (Don't include temporary ashram training. We all once went to kindergarten, but we didn't stay there).

Monastic Problem.
Let me answer by saying that there are many of us who asked the same questions: "What have I done?", "What have I done with my life?", "How could I not have seen
through this before making such a commitment?"

The answer to these questions inevitably led to our leaving the ashram. Many are following and will yet follow.
