Are teachings to blame for heartless nuns?
There is a lot of discussion on this board about the effect of Master’s teachings on people. PLEASE, let’s not call them the SRF teachings! For myself I can say that if I ranked all the people I have ever known the worse 6 to 10 of them would be SRF nuns. Many of them are the most selfish, self-centered, cruel, heartless and power hungry people I have ever known. They try to project such sweetness to the public and it is such a lie. It is a small wonder they hide as much as possible.

However, I do not blame Master’s teachings or the meditation techniques. I have known many really nice devotees of Master and the "teachings" have been around for 1000's of years. I feel the problem is the idea of an all powerful God-substitute organization that attracts people with character problems and then twists them into the heartless nuns we see running the organization today. The ashram culture turns them into what we see today or they leave. The idea that you represent God and are even one with God is very corrupting. Satan has had little work to do to push them over the edge into what they have become.

Overall this should not be such a shock. The idea that SRF is the religion for the new age is a myth created by SRF. SRF is shrinking in size and most likely will be gone in 20 years or less. It is really just a blip in history and the fact that it is run by weird cult leaders is only a shock if we believed their propaganda that SRF = Master. Master’s influence will outlive them by 1000’s of years.

Re: Are teachings to blame for heartless nuns?
Hey old timer, how's it going!

I want put my two cents in here.

A lot has been written already about the strong tint of black and white thinking (bossy imperatives) which pepper SRF lingo and its publications. Much has been said about the techniques -- how they've been altered or neutered for mass consumption, etc.

First off, I believe there hasn't been a really stringent and detailed analysis done on either regarding the quality of the language or the techniques. Forums for discussing the "teachings" and the techniques are necessary. I also believe the SRF leadership is really really f-ucked up. We're talking about major, unmitigated dysfunction.

I've often felt that the real culprit has to do with monasticism. You can find nasty nuns just as much in a Catholic monastery as you can in SRF. One of my friends told me he used to see Catholic nuns with whole shopping baskets filled with liquor. I'd like us to consider what happens to a woman when she short circuit's her natural instinct to nest and nurture.

Please take a moment to read the following articles...

www.stress-help.co.uk/Gender.htm

members.aol.com/sexualabs...ytocin.htm

Both of these articles discuss Oxytocin. It's a hormone that influences our ability to bond with others. Studies have shown that the lack of physical connection can lower oxytocin levels which in turn lead to depression and a host of negative behaviors.

The first article discusses a study published in the journal Psychological Review which challenges the old "fight or flight" response theory of human behavior. The study suggests that fight or flight is more of a male survival strategy. Women tend to manifest what they call a "tend or befriend" response which, as defined by the study's co-author, Laura Cousino Klein, PhD., means "tending and protecting their young, making friends, developing a social network, creating bonds."

Quote:
"...a female's goal -- whether she is human or nonhuman -- "is to protect her young, and in order to do that, you have to form a large group of friends or a network in order to protect yourself," says Klein. "Or you have to quiet or calm your young down so they won't make noise and attract attention. She might have a fight-or-flight response under certain conditions, but that would not be her primary response."

Laura Cousino Klein, PhD

According to the article, oxytocin plays a key role in a woman's urge to tend and befriend ...

Quote:
"The hormone oxytocin is released during childbirth and breast-feeding. It helps the uterus contract during labor and after delivery, and it helps the woman breast-feed her baby. It has also been found to be a mood regulator, Studies show that oxytocin decreases anxiety and depression, and promotes an affiliation or friend-seeking response in females, says Klein. While both men and women produce oxytocin, women seem to produce more.

Here's how it works in the stress response, according to Klein: When a woman is stressed, she gets a quick surge of the stress hormones epinephrine, norepinephrine, and cortisol -- then the oxytocin. The female hormone estrogen seems to give oxytocin a boost, setting in motion the tend-or-befriend response. It's primarily the testosterone in men that triggers the fight-or-flight response. Other hormones like adrenalin are also involved."

So there it is. Certainly it isn't the only viable explanation, but it does indicate that a nun's touch-starved lifestyle can lead to a short circuiting of her natural tendency to nurture and make friends.

If you leaven this into the dough while keeping in mind the dysfunctional values which are propagated in SRF community plus the fact that many of the older nuns may have some nasty post menopausal problems (2-3% chance of sex reversals), you can see that maybe the nuns need to think about practicing tantra or at least get a few more lingering hugs.

If I had to rank all the people I have ever known, the worst would be corporate executives. The attributes "selfish, self-centered, cruel, heartless and power hungry" seem to be the traits that allow rise to the upper levels of management. A key difference between your 6-10 and some of the people I'm refering to, is that corporate execs would not make so many stupid financial moves.

So no, I can't blame the teachings when the kind of lousy behavior you are referring to is epidemic in our current social/economic system. In pre-Enron days, there was even a chic to it.

I think it has to do with power, of whatever sort. As you say, for many that seems to be a big entry way for the satanic force.

No Mr. Frodo, No, throw it into the fire!
