As a loyal devotee I feel we should protect our Guru’s work from distortion. This is a very tricky thing since maya can easily manipulate a mind and cause one to hurt the work more than help it. I’m sure Judas thought he was helping Jesus when he did what he did. The bad ladies also feel they are helping and protecting Master’s work from the rest of us. (I hope they do)

We must be very careful indeed and watch our motives. We can’t work for personal gain or recognition.

Why do I think SRF needs changing?

For myself, I look at the impact mother center is having on people. 30 monastics leaving in the last year is one result. They are not leaving to watch more TV, earn money, buy palm pilots, and chase women. They are leaving because the environment is harmful to their spiritual lives.

I look at all the people who come in contact with the leadership. To my knowledge every single one of them ends up discouraged. The Walrus is full of people who have been closer and see the current state of things. I know many wonderful long term 15+ year devotees who get closer to mother center, often work or volunteer there, and as a result of their exposure quit meditating or going to temple. (Some start posting messages here!) The mother center and publications center are a wasteland of discouraged monastics and employees.

Both of these situations, the impact on monastics and lay members, is wrong and should not be tolerated. To think that people get closer to the leadership and are so turned off is evidence that something is seriously wrong.

My Master’s work has been hijacked. It is part of the natural checks and balances in maya that things will change, sometimes getting worse and sometimes better. We are just acting as part of the natural order of things. We have checked, now we are going to re-balance.
