The captain of a ship greets a new crew member. "I'm told that you've never been to sea before" he says. "We'll be leaving harbour soon and as it is very foggy I want you to go up to the crows-nest and shout if you see anything."

After about an hour's sailing through dense fog the message comes from above "Seagull 400 yards ahead!"

"We are seafaring men!" shouts the captain to the new boy. "We take no notice of seagulls."

"Well, I think you should take some notice of this one" comes the reply. "It's sitting on the harbour wall."

A new crew member of the Titanic, eager to serve and make a good impression, is sent to the bow with a pair of binoculars. Eagerly searching the horizon for a potential problem, he spots a large white object floating in the water. Knowing the ship needs as much time to turn as possible, he picks up his walky talky to radio the bridge. He points in the direction of large object and shouts into the radio, "Dead ahead, Ice...."

BANG! A report echos on the deck.

"Captain," says the First Officer, "We've taken care of another troublemaker. I'll send the fifth replacement." He reloads his gun.
