Paramadas Registered User (8/16/05 5:41 pm) Reply	Jesus and the moneychangers Why did Jesus overturn the moneychangers' tables at the temple in Jerusalem? The moneychangers exchanged impure worldly money for pure temple money, with which you could purchase a pure white dove to sacrifice. Ignoring the animal rights issue (the poor doves), the whole moneychanging scheme was nothing more than a convoluted way of supporting the priests at the temple who spent all their time acting as priests and had no time to go out and get a job. This was just a form of tithing. SRF tithes, as do most churches, and we don't think it's wrong. Master didn't go out and get a job to support SRF, he accepted donations. He was a fulltime "priest", just the same as the Jewish priests who made their living off the proceeds of the moneychangers. So, is there any difference between what the high priests were doing and what Master did? Both accepted money to run their organizations. Yet Jesus took great offense at this. Why?
