my solution for now
So it's a strange place I find myself at, a bit different than before I found Walrus about a week ago, yet strangely the same.

I've decided to continue with the lessons and the techniques. I've decided to disregard any part of the lessons that do not feel right or true to me. Regarding going to the local center, I am more cautious regarding that as I am definitely not of the same mindset as most of the people there now.

At first I thought the SRF administration being corrupt or even Yogananda himself would invalidate doing anything with this path. But one thing convinced me, the techniques work and I find them of great benefit. I also have found some parts of the lessons very valuable to me. Do I throw all that away? I've decided no. I won't swear allegiance to SRF and Yogananda through Kriya and get it elsewhere instead. I won't be donating vast sums of money to SRF. Or paltry sums.

The thing that helped clear the fog for me is a little unusual so bear with me. Sometimes an idea or invention is discovered by more than one person independently about the same time, even on opposite sides of the world. I believe this is because the time is ripe for the given knowledge to manifest. For whatever reasons, the time was right for the knowledge and teachings in India to gain prominence here in the US through Yogananda. Others brought it too, but his star rose higher and so did the visibility of the knowledge he brought. I could spend unended amounts of time puzzling whether this meant he was better than the others or simply had more charisma. His personal nature for me is besides the point now, it's all about finding what's of value, to me, personally.

This will create a divide for me if I do get involved at the center though which is why I shy off of it. I know many SRFers feel great love and connection to Yogananda personally. I feel appreciation for his role in bringing these teachings where I can learn them, but beyond that doesn't feel right to me. This might make me corrupt in some people's eyes perhaps, I don't know. I can only do what seems right from my perspective.

Re: two good minds ... two great hearts
Nagchampa, thank you so much...yes, it feels like the right direction and I feel much more peaceful about the entire business. Interesting you bring up the Catholic church because I've thought of it often while reading Walrus, about how the Catholics must be struggling with their faith. I think I've been spared some of the harder parts of the struggle many face here because I was never looking for a guru/disciple relationship - more of a focus on the knowledge itself. So the questions about Yogananda while troubling don't hit quite the same nerve for me. I am very glad you and others have found alternate paths (when needed) that work for you!

Soulcircle, I like you too!

You're going forward.
I just have a very good feeling about your decision. That which is within you is being drawn to its counterpart which is all around us. Spirit appeals to spirit by mysterious means, but spirit also recognizes its own. It's like a game of hide and seek. I am very happy for you.

"I think I've been spared some of the harder

This is what makes you SANE Serenity, at least in this type of situation, and even if you were looking for a Guru/Disciple relationship, which is darned helpful sometimes, it's saner to focus on the teachings rather than on the human being who is your Guru.

If you can keep things in perspective, use the techniques and learn what you need to learn, then it's a bit like your stars intricate dance with the Mothership.

Also, if you go to the local chapel or chapter or whatever you guys call your meditation centers, you can be one of the Walri infilitrators! You might meet other infilitrators, who knows? Just stay grounded.

Keep reminding yourself:

"There is a fine line between being careful and paranoia."

I hear this is going to be a new SRF mantra. It calms the mind and opens the heart.
