Letter to Walrus asking how Kriya is Approved
I received the following in an email to the Walrus:
Quote:
I have a question: How strict is SRF when it comes to accepting people for Kriya? I've heard varying reports from very high standards to "just repeat back on the application form what you've read in the meditation technique Lessons." Do you or anyone on the board know who selects new Kriyabans or even how Kriyabans get selected? … I assume that a "Kriya committee" reviews all applications rather than one omniscient representative!

There is no committee. There is one individual who reviews the applications with a simple checklist of "bad" things to look for. This person is not even a monastic. In fact, by this time it may not even be a member of SRF. This is almost an automated process. It is not some divinely guided ritual.

The Kriya approval process, like so many at SRF, is designed to protect SRF not serve the membership. In this case the protection is from lawsuits, from criticism and from bad publicity (like the Charles Manson girl!). Since this “review” can take 3 to 6 months you might think it was a committee but no such emphasis is placed on Kriya. In fact, the reason it takes so long is that this is such a low priority for SRF.

Another very telling indicator!

PS: Yes, SRF is hiring more non-members than members these days. The reason should be obvious to anyone reading this board.

The reason SRF is hiring non-members is probably not obvious to everyone. There are several reasons.

1. It is hard to find local members to still work for SRF. They see those who have gone before them and see what it has done to them. Actually in many cases they don’t see those who have gone before them because they quit attending church.

2. SRF doesn’t pay much, has no retirement plan, and doesn’t have benefits like unemployment insurance. Once it starts to smell like a cult these really turn people off.

3. A very important reason is that SRF would really rather hire non-members. They don’t expect SRF to act rightly and morally. A good example is the computer department. At first it was completely staffed by monks. However they saw such waste and problems that they complained and were replaced by all members. The members saw the same thing and they are being replaced with non-members.

Other messages on this board clearly show that to SRF members are an exposure. To make sure SRF survives for thousands of years and the teachings are protected, members must be kept away and controlled.
