Re: REINCARNATION & Theravada Buddhism
I canīt imagine a person with a soul engaging in terrorism. When terrorism occurs, all soul has vanished.

Re: REINCARNATION & Theravada Buddhism
The soul is wrapped in unclean klippot, but still there. There may be a strong attachment to the Sitra Achra, but there is still a soul. By attaching oneself to what dehumanizes others, one becomes attached to the unclean klippot. It's not wise to do that.

Whatīs this `soulī anyway? Some kind of substance? Iīd like to hear a nice clear explanation of what a soul is.

Re: REINCARNATION & Theravada Buddhism
prssmd, according to PY, a soul is individualized Spirit. Spirit meaning God or Ever Existing, Ever Conscious, Ever New Bliss, in Hindu terms -satchitananda. There's the universal God and then there's the infinite number of souls or gods. A common analogy is God or Spirit as the ocean, and the souls as the waves. Now, the ocean exists and waves are constantly rising and falling. We, as unenlightened humans who are identified with our physical bodies, are the waves. Once we lose our body-identification and realize our oneness with God will return to the ocean (Spirit).

Light and darkness, good and evil are all part of life, you cannot only have one without the other. To make the cosmic play (lila) work, you must have both good guys and bad guys. Occording to your karma, you get to play a particular role. The world is, generally speaking, still in the less evolved stage of evolution, thus you have the majority of mankind occupied with body-identification and self-gratification, mostly darkened minds, as can be easily recognized by the constant wars, terrorists, sexual obsession, and corrupt governments worldwide.

God Talks With Arjuna, is a great book on the topic of reincarnation.

Re: REINCARNATION & Ramana Maharshi
Redpurusha, according to Ramana Maharshi, reincarnation exists only so long as there is ignorance. There is really no reincarnation at all, either now or before. Nor will there be any hereafter.

You might like to know your past lives, but Ramana Maharshi asks, "Do you know the present life that you wish to know the past? Find the present, then the rest will follow. Even with our present limited knowledge, you suffer so much; why should you burden yourself with more knowledge? Is it to suffer more?"
