Freedom versus Slavery
As may have become apparent from my recent posts, I have become extremely concerned with issues that touch on the conflict between freedom versus slavery. This concern stems from working with Teachers from the European esoteric traditions. They taught that the outcome of spiritual work was the liberation of the individual, and that persoanl Liberty is of the highest importance to spiritual developement. Indeed, without personal liberty, it isn't possible to work with karma. With each ceding of personal liberty, evolution is slowed.

The greatest threats to personal liberty in the 20th century were German facism and Soviet communism, and, of the two, comunism did the greatest damage for the longest period of time. In Soviet Russia hundreds of millions were slaughtered by Stalin and his successors. In China Chairman Mao engineered famines that killed hundreds of millions. In Cambodia, Pol Pot killed millions. And in each and every one of these countries, as is North Korea today, millions lived in a darkness of personal slavery from which they had little hope of ever awakening.

In the United States the Soviet Union ran a concerted program of espionage and recruitment designed to weaken us and bring an end to what is, with all its imperfections, the most free society the world has ever known. This has been written about extensively, and I leave it to those of you who are interested to find the sources. This battle is not over yet. Marxist and socialist ideology is still a pervasive influence on American college campuses and in our media, among our entertainers, and among our so-called "intellectual elite". The purpose of these people is still the same as it ever was: to take away our rights and liberties to self determination. Every day we see abridgements of our right of free speech, of assembly, of self defense.

In the face of the mounting evidence of collusion the Left has no choice but to descend into it's usual practice of name calling and ad hominem attacks. "McCarthyite! Racist! Homophobe!" they yell at any who dare to point out that they are working to chip away at the freedoms which a capitalist society guarantees people.

And this in the face of new and more compelling studies showing that the standard of living is increasing by any measure you might care to use in every country that moves to a democratic capitalist system.

I entered the path of mysticism to try to obtain liberation from this world of illusion. I have found that many of my peers in the world of "Self-Realization" embrace political philosophies which, it seems to me,act in every way to the detriment of self-realization. At the end of each day on this board I find myself enraged at the blindness of people who are intelligent, concerned and caring human beings.

I knew as well that I was in for a certain amount of name calling when I determined that I could no longer embrace liberal politics in the light of what I had found out about the ramafications of socialist economic engineering. However I never expected to be exposed to it among my peers in the world of self developement and God searching.

For this reason I am resigning from the Walrus Board. I find that, no matter how hard I struggle for inner peace and harmony, coming here destroys the results of my meditation and makes me extremely unhappy.

I wish you all well.

Sincerely,

Chris

Re: thank you for your well wishes
chrisparis,

thank you

I hope you wish the people in this country who can't get to a doctor, the children with no health insurance---I hope you wish them well

In this great country with "rising standards of living" I hope you wish the one third of the children who live in poverty well.

And I hope as this great capitalist country follows its installed "president," as he spends the next generations into heavy taxes if not into bankruptcy---among his giveaways to corporations and the billionaires---there's this Mars jaunt now---I hope as the man/woman takes their first step on the moon

you will help the laborers of this country who make the jaunts of the billionaires possible--

that you will be shoulder to shoulder with the laborers that worked their whole life as they enter homeless "shelters," 'cause of an uninsured illness that ended their paychecks,

the very laborers who allow your "raising standard of living," and your pursuit of the spiritual path,

and I hope you realize as the majority of the people realize, that the CIA, in its dispute with Kennedy, covered up the evidence that an element of the CIA killed Kennedy in this free country.

I hope you realize that Richard Nixon tried to barter with the CIA to save his presidency---bartered with them, by threatening to tell the country their guilt in cover-up of the killing Kennedy, by an element within the CIA

You are an intelligent and caring man. You grieve the losses of millions upon millions in the cases you mention. Thank you for caring and wishing us well.

Please broaden your care as I am sure you will, for this country and the world as I stated in my response to Ringbearer7's request for a solution:

[from Not in the Mainstream/human rights for the Palestinians, 2/02/2004.12:22AM

Quote:
Another solution is to pray like h*ll for all the beings in the world.
And after praying like h*ll, start co-operating with all good community enabling and bridge building energy, co-operate like our lives depend on it, which they do. This planet is a small lonely beautiful place in space. And all we have.

Goodbye chrisparis and hurry back,

freedom is justice too
freedom is justice for those in this country with no voice on the media you refer to, CBS owned by viacom and the other network owned by Disney

the freedom to vote for many people didn't exist until among others Stokely Carmichael, and two very good Richmond devotees who were at his side in the 60's, classmates, one who trained him in the South, and a third kriyaban who attendes convocation who inspired Stokely,
and another kriyaban who is presently an SRF monk who gave his ALL in the sixties as a lawyer for the movement to register voters in the South---

classmates of Stokely, an SRF monk whose inspitation and leftist action you basically call "Red," yes?

hurry back, you are a caring person, and perhaps you sense that we are too

we wish you and all beings well,

soulcircle/rachelcorrie/ and if I may every child in poverty here and abroad,

children that Mother Theresa reached out to
chidren that are being reached out to today single-handedly by a long, long-time devotee of Yogananda see:
www.forthechildren.divine-mother.com/
we all have hopes--- hopes you and the corporations with their trillions and their high standards of living --
hopes that their leaders and stockhoders will be people like you
will live and breath the compassion that you do

Chrisparis, if you ever read this, thank you for that great post! I am printing it out to keep it for my files. I hate disussing politics, but it's a part of life and needs to be dealt with. The subject of politics has been the cause of much disress in my own life.

Wish you well,
Redpurusha

Re: Freedom versus Slavery
In this world of maya, there are 2 sides to everything, so why do people get so worked up defending their side?

Re: Freedom versus Slavery
Unless of course you are talking about something such as defending the environment, where there is clearly a "right" side to be on!

bsjones -- LOL!

Chrisparis i am sorry you are gone though your having to endure upset is a sensible reason to go. I would probably seem a 'leftist' in your eyes, and some of your posts seem to do a bit of name calling too, but your posts show intelligence, and a study of facts. That is what I will miss.

I wonder why political disagreement is so upsetting? It upsets me too. Yet it is from those who think differently from ourselves that we have the greatest opportunity to expand and enhance our own thinking. Monoculture is bad in agriculture and in life. Further, we all think about politics for the same basic reason - to try to understand what systems of organizing human society have the best chance of creating a healthy happy world.

For me the most wonderful good luck of being born American is that we talk to each other instead of killing each other when we disagree politically. Civil war is the chiefest of calamities. If we could take the further step of not being upset when we disagree, I think we might be amazed at what we could learn from one another and what good ideas we could develop.

My introduction to buddhism was via Robert Thurman. His position, in speaking of buddhism as a 'cool revolution' was that empowering the individual was the first revolutionary result of the buddha's teaching.

We will miss Chrisparis. I can understand his saying that being on Walrus upsets him and therefore he can't meditate. It is good to get away and find that peace of mind.
