The God I know is not punishing, nor retaliatory
I have studied the world's great religions since my teens. My study has helped solidify my personal beliefs. I am very comfortable with my spiritual path and thank you for your encouragement. I am fortunate in that I feel God's presence and immense love... I am a very happy person. You were correct: my friend did not appreciate my suggestion to review comments on the Walrus web site. We have had zero contact since. It is very sad, but not surprising, in that he's become increasingly "closed-off" and narrow minded. He does not seem joyful, which concerns me.

I read Autobiography of a Yogi three years ago (at my friend's suggestion), as well as several other SRF books and tapes, which he provided to me. There was a lot there that spoke to my heart and soul, but as with all man-made systems/programs/doctrine, I had to discern for myself what was "right" for me. Many spiritual leaders insist that "one cannot pick and choose what to believe... "one must buy into the entire program." I would suggest that not only does God give us the freedom to "choose," that is precisely why we are here! Individually we seek God and it should come from love, not fear. The God I know is not punishing, nor retaliatory. He is loving and kind and wants us to learn "love" and share it with one another. Sadly, I believe that many people are more comfortable with "instructions" than they are with learning to love. Loving, unconditionally, would require that they be "other-directed" rather than self-focused.

You have been very generous in your responses to me. I sense a very kind soul... thank you. I have decided it best to leave my friend be. I will continue to pray for his happiness.
