Arrogant Myths – The Outside World
One of the arrogant myths spun inside the ashram environment, with employees and monastics both, is that of the “outside world”. Working for SRF is thought to be above, or working directly for Master, hence making those there somehow better or at least the environment better. The environment “outside” is always viewed as the lesser place, a cold place outside the protection of Master where people are mean and the world beats you up day after day.

For some it becomes a learned fear and helps to hold them at SRF. For others it is a learned source of prestige as you are no longer part of that bad world but have made it to the “important place”. The “outside world” concept is quickly learned and bought into by most. Living in the “outside world” is dangerous and not good for your spiritual progress. If you fear it, it holds you to mother center, if you feel proud of it, it holds you to mother center. Both work to management’s advantage.

Management pushes this myth to help control those that are there. When people leave you hear things like “they just weren’t ready and have to go back out into the outside world” and other things that reveal the arrogance. The idea that someone that “has to” go back out to the outside world is somehow a failure is pervasive and helps keep control. The tentacles of this belief go very deep and monastics and employees who debate leaving often go though tremendous self doubts about leaving, and are poorly treated by management if they decide to or even discuss it.

Control. Control. Control. You only need these myths and control techniques if people would not stay without them. And most people would not.

The Outside World
I agree. The whole culture is one of "the world will never understand us." Correct, but not in the way they mean!

Such an envirnoment and belief system does not lead to self-reflection and honest introspection, both of which are necessary for Self-realization. As long as they persist in this kind of closed environment they will not get where they want to go, no matter how much they fool themselves into thinking they are already there. Delusion is strong.

Fear of the outside world
Yes SRF has made us into babies who need to stay close to Mommy Center to feel safe. It is despicable. Master tells us all is God. SRF tells us God is at 3880 San Rafael Avenue.
