There is a misconception in some postings that Dhirananda was a disciple of Yogananda, or that his ideas were derivative of Yogananda's. This is not correct. As Yogananda was a disciple of Sri Yukteswar, so Dhirananda was a disciple of Kebalanda and Satyanada, all deriving their Kriya discipline from Lahiri. Dhirananda's background and Yogananda's background in Kriya were about the same. Each developed ideas from Lahiri in his own way. They both wrote extensively in the Praecepta and other early publications. The styles and viewpoints are pretty easy to distinguish. Dhirananda's was dry and intellectual. Yogananda's was flowery and devotional. After Nerode started writing for these publications, it became more difficult to distinguish the styles. Nerode has a distinguishable poetic style, somewhat like haiku, which you can see in his many articles and poems in the old East-West.

Without the information you have given us in this forum, we would never know about the contributions made by these two early teachers to the original SRF mission. I don't see how SRF can ever be properly evaluated without a factual history, but it seems that such a history will never be written, and SRF members will be left with only the myths created by Faye and the Matas such as Yogananda as avatar, SRF's development as a strict Divine Plan, and all of them as highly realized beings.
