'Terms of Use' (proposed)
As a concerned bystander, I think what hurts this board as much as anything is the violation of certain reasonable "terms of use":
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Visitor shall not post/transmit any material which:

¥Violates or infringes in any way upon the rights of others.
Ê
¥Is unlawful, threatening, abusive, defamatory, invasive of privacy or publicity rights, vulgar, obscene, profane or otherwise objectionable.

¥Do not use profanity to describe another poster, also please do not make attacks personal. Attack the idea, not the person.

¥When postingÊ references to articles, please include the address (url) of the site it originated on.

¥Prejudicial remarks, relating to religion, sex, race, sexual preference, etc. will not be tolerated

¥Any conduct by a visitor that in the Walrus's discretion restricts or inhibits any other person from using or enjoying the site is expressly prohibited.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I believe the board needs more active moderation, and the moderator should consider banning those who continue to violate the terms of use after being warned.

If these aren't in the Walrus's Terms of Use, then please consider adding them.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Re: 'Terms of Use' (proposed)
Maybe there could be an option of "hands off please", for people who object to being personally disparaged. I think others would respect that. I get a little heat in my inbox occasionally, but not much on the forum proper. Probably because I am a bit of a politician, liberally using words such as "probably, possibly, etc..." and trying to smooze everyone. Etzchaim called me a peacemaker, which might be a nice way of saying politician. I also have a real streak of know-it-all, and an answer for everything. I do that mostly for my own peace of mind since I have a real need for meaning. So far everyone seems to tolerate it, so I guess I have to accuse myself for now. But I for one would rather get negative feedback even on my personality than walking around clueless. I got called a snake once (not here), and it's true that to survive sometimes a degree of slithering is required.

Perhaps if offended the best possibility is to protest and request "hands off please" if need be, but I like the flow of walrus as it is. Too much nicey nicey and you end up with a bunny board. I just have a gut feeling that walrus ezboard will get through this.

I would never call anyone a politician.

Well, ugiz, I like the Walrus too, but I think it would be even better with more tension between order and chaos. (we've got plenty of chaos IMO).

Anyway, some other thoughts I've had are to make YB a moderator, and to create two new forums:

FIGHT CLUB
WILD SPECULATIONS

:)

Applause for the admin's action today in freeing up public ability to again read the SRF Walrus board without having to log in.

Good move!

EDIT
Well, now it's one day later and you've reverted to requiring login merely to read here. Bizarre (and seemingly a bad decision).
