Walrus?
What's the significance of the use of the word "walrus" on this board, and more specifically, with relation to SRF and SRF-related issues? I thought a walrus was some type of sea mammal or something. Even the little red devil (oops is that a bad word) is called a walrus?

Sorry to be so clueless.

Actually Walrus backwards is Surlaw, which in Sanskrit means person of truth. In ancient times the Surlaw was the elder in the community who worked to preserve mental health in the village, fought injustice, and upheld honor.

Of course that is a bunch of baloney but is more impressive than the real reason. I remembered when the Beatles had the album with the walrus on it, and all the Paul is dead stuff, with everyone trying to guess who the walrus was. Not really deep. I think I’ll stick to the Surlaw explanation.

As far as the character, I realized we would be thought of as devils by mother center and so it was a way of poking a little fun at ourselves. We don’t want to take all this too seriously. After all, it is the bad ladies which, in the bigger picture, are really suffering the most out of all this.

That's hilarious! You actually had me going with the "surlaw" scam, even though I know perfectly well there are no sanskrit characters that would be transliterated anything like that. Geez, no wonder someone like me got taken in by SRF! We should all have to pass the surlaw test if we want to claim we've learned our lesson. I may not be as far along in the de-programming process as I'd hoped!

Re: Walrus
"I Am the Walrus" is a 1967 Beatles song, written by John Lennon (though credited to both John Lennon and Paul McCartney). John Lennon began the song while he was having an acid trip. The song was released on their Magical Mystery Tour album.

The "SRF Walrus" is a reference to the opening line of that song:

------------------------------------------------------------
"I am he as you are he as you are me and we are all together."
------------------------------------------------------------

So the Walrus signifies we're one community, where no one shines above the rest, where we don't take orders from 'The Bad Ladies' or anyone else. We're our own people, and we value each other's opinions equally. The Walrus represents unity within our individuality.

An in that spirit, we're abandoning censorship of opinions. Speak your mind and express yourself. YOU are the Walrus!
