Somewhere in the SRF literature it says that Yogananda prohibited his followers playing cards. Does anyone know why? Is there something inherently evil in the cards?

I believe it was discouraged. I think I heard a story about Master coming up to Uma Mata when she was playing with cards, and he was displeased and said something to that effect- maybe it was about wasting time.

Years ago I was on a game show called Card Sharks. It was mostly a game of calling cards high or low, and I won some cash and prizes. I wondered if there was anything wrong with making money in this way, so I decided to contribute 10% of my earnings to SRF. I figured if it was wrong, they would send the money back.

I never got the money back, but I did receive a nice letter from Sri Daya Mata thanking me for my contribution. So I figured cards were okay in certain circumstances. :)

Thanks, Pig Ma, your story is a classic! Yep, always remember: it is a waste of time to play cards except when you give your winnings to SRF;lol

Xinsider- you make me laugh! I was very happy about making it on the game show Card Sharks, and inwardly felt there was nothing wrong with it. I went on the show intending to give the 10% contribution whether it was big or small, and was surprised to receive a thank you letter from Sri Daya Mata for it. I wasn't surprised about them keeping the money, although I truly did wonder if they would find it acceptable. I've actually heard one story about money being sent back, but the details escape me.
