The are all paranoid around the encintias temple, so you get information with no names
Have you been around Encinitas long enough to know if this "paranoia" is a new thing?

Interesting item I heard part of on NPR recently. They were talking about a rather severe precident to the patriot act. In Thomas Jefferson's day, a law was passed making it an act of treason to criticize the federal government. Apparently Jefferson had to run a stealth campaign, senator by senator, to get the thing repealed.

One expects a certain constant level of paranoia in governments and corporations, but it's not so great a situation in any church that claims a belief that God is Love.

Mystic Traveller,

you wrote "In an ideal world, or Satyuga, organizations like SRF may not be needed for this kind of work but it is an absolute necessity at this juncture in the overall Karmic revolution of the world." and I think you make an excellent point. Yogananda himself writes in the autobiography on the nature of creating such an organization. "Indeed it would be a priceless boon if everyone had a Self-realized teacher by their side.... but the world is full of sinners and there are few saints. If not by dissimation of teachings by accomplished yogis in written form, then how else are people to learn?" He clearly states this way of learning is not ideal and also it will have its problems, but it's the best he could do in this age.

A common allegation is that the teachings are "cookie cut-outs" or something like this. This is an accurate description, but why the shock? How can you give individualized printed lessons from the spirit world? you can't. You can follow the written lessons the best you can, personalize them for yourself and follow your intuition. If you seek more personalized teachings, find a master in the body or if none of these are to your liking, become an independent truth seeker.

Re: Nice Welcoming Committee
The paranoia at Encinitas is but a carbon copy of what is happening throughout SRF.

We come back to the basics of what holds people in the organization. FEAR and GUILT. People spy on each other
and lies are rampant. Anything to maintain their spot in the favor of those who would lead them.

Temples are hot-beds for such things. You are wise to take your own advice, that is to get as far away from the temples as you can (as quickly as you can).

I agree with you. If that were the generally given advice, there might not be the need for a Walrus. The dominant tone of SRF magazine articles, and Convocation lectures I've attended over at least the last 10 years has been "you can't trust yourself because you're in maya - trust us."

If anyone doubts this try the experiment of approaching one of the ministers and saying, "I've decided I need to personalize the lessons for myself, and follow my own intuition."

Obvious exageration, and I think there's a lot to an analogy Anandamoy has used: if you're trying to bake a cake, unless you are an expert cook, you're probably better off following the exact receipe from start to finish.

But there are certainly matters of the heart that do not fit the mold, and I've also heard Anandamoy suggest that "everything we know is wrong."

Ultimately, I guess one of the best examples I can think of for the process iteself is Yogananda. Weighed, tested, sought second opinions. Was nobody's sheep or blind believer, but ultimately took the kind of advice attributed to the Buddha's final instructions to his followers, "Be a lamp unto yourself."

Well said, ranger. I almost always get a lot out of what you say.
