I was astounded when I saw these two posts about the masons. Absolutely astounded!
May the following be of interest and information to you:
In the first place, Freemasonry IS NOT a religion. It is a fraternal organization that admits men of many different religious backgrounds. It is customary in masonic lodges to always attempt to have the sacred book of the religion of the candidate on the altar at the time of initiation, hence the Bible for Christians, the Torah for Jews, the Koran for Muslims, etc. One does not "convert" to Freemasonry, nor can one be "born into" it. If one lives in a state where the age of admission is 21, the fact that one is the son of a mason allows one to be initiated at 18. That is the only benefit.
In the second place, there are no more secrets or esoteric teachings "beyond the 33rd degree". The 33rd degree is a either purely administrative or honorary at the end of the Scottish Rite. There aren't any "higher degrees".
In the third place, there have been only fourteen Presidents of the United States who were masons, a fact easily obtainable with less than one minute's research on Google.
Freemasonry makes no demands for obedience on its members. Why do you think so many of this nation's founders were involved in Masonry? Because a central ideal of the institution is the personal moral education of each mason and the personal liberty of each mason.
Freemasonry is not directly connected with Rosicrucianism, which is a seperate school based on alchemy, Kabala, hermeticism and gnosticism; nor with Alice Bailey's Arcane School, which was an off-shoot of the theosophical society.
Given your concern with enforced mind control I am surprised that you should have allowed your thinking to be completely influenced by this codswolllip nonsense which itself is put out by two notorious religious cults; the Mormons and the Jehovah's Witnesses. Abundant accurate information about Freemasonry is readily available on-line, and even a good deal of the secret ritual work is obtainable in any major bookstore. Fifteen minutes of effort on your part could have answered ALL of your questions.

ChrisParis, Thanks for the information. I stand corrected. I'm simply endeavoring to understand relationships. The major point of the original post was "no independent thinking."
