Two Kinds of Kriya
Yogananda himself has given us the truth about Kriya given by one's Guru or received only as a technique from other sources. On page 108 of Yogananda's autobiography:

"Sri Yukteswar chose the following morning to grant me his Kriya Yoga initiation. The technique I had already received from two disciples of Lahiri Mahasaya--Father and my tutor, Swami Kebalananda. But Master possesssed a transforming power; at his touch a great light broke upon my being, like the glory of countless suns blazing together. A flood of ineffable bliss overwhelmed my heart to an innermost core."

This quote tell us:
(1) Perhaps anyone who has received Kriya initiation (as here Y's father and Swami K) can pass on the Kriya technique to whomever they wish. However:

(2) Initiation from one's Guru has special power for our enlightenment and our spiritual development. That Kriya initiation is especially charged.

I don't think SRF or anyone else can decide if and when we receive initiation direct from Yogananda or one of his line of Gurus. I suspect many of us have never received the Kriya technique direct from the Gurus. We aren't ready yet, no matter how many SRF Kriya ceremonies we might have attended. Perhaps we're not disciples of the SRF gurus.

I was aware of special blessings and the presence of Sri Yukteswar when I received the written Hong Sau technique from SRF. I was transported to a blissful realm for several days. The "real" world seemed very shadowy. I was aware of special blessings when I began the practice of the Om technique. But I'm well aware I have not received Kriya itself direct from a Guru, although I attended an SRF Kriya initiation ceremony.

Kriya is still just a technique, a little difficult to practice, not yet especially given by a personal Guru. (I did have a dream/astral experience where I received Kriya from a monk, which to me was a sign that I could practice Kriya. This was a long time after the SRF Kriya ceremony.)

So I believe that there IS a difference between receiving techniques inwardly from the Guru (or outwardly if the Guru is alive on the earth) and simply practicing the Kriya technique. Probably the Kriya techniques should be available to anyone who wants them.

The techniques are difficult enough so it takes some time and dedication to practice them. Perhaps devotion and dedicated practice over many years attracts the attention of an inner or outer Guru.

Re: God has brought Kriya on the WEB
"the instuctions of the masters"
SRF ignores these:
1) there will be no organization
2) kriya is given by the guru - not a printing press.

Neither of these things is SRF's doing. Yogananda created the organization as requested by his Master. He was also the one who brought about the printed lessons. When I said "the instructions of the Masters" I was including Paramahansaji among them. I believe that Yogananda's instructions concerning the transmission of Kriya are quite clear, in the AY, in the lessons, etc. and he makes this out to be a serious issue. If people want to draw attention to themsevles and make themselves feel "enlightened" and "empowered" by disregarding the Master's counsel then that's up to them. But in my opinion it is WRONG.

Re:Spiritual Laws come From God
Let me get this straight guys, the reason why the Kriya is kept secret is because some kind of crook out there can start practicing kriya just for the reason of developing powers so that he/she can use them for their own crooked purposes. Poor fellow I feel sorry for him/her. I have not acquired any power myself in spite of all my 25 years of Kriya AND devotion, this crook will go to the grave before he can even get enough power to make a bank teller numbed enough as to ask for the money. Do you really think that a crook will go to that extent? and if the crook patient is so great that person is already a saint. And of course we need to keep it quite because if the crook hears about all the powers and miracles that Encinitas devotees can do his/her determination may even double and he might get to the point as to ask for kriya from a Brother at gunpoint.
Please give understanding.

4 Kriyas in News Group
Someone scanned their lessons and posted them to alt.yogananda

Unfortunately they didn't proofread them so they're kind of a jumble. But with a little effort you can make out what they're supposed to say.

It's not every lesson in the Kriya series, but definitely the techniques for one, two, three, four.

Where is Kriya Story?
Somewhere (I thought it was on the Walrus site) there was a story by someone who practiced Kriya regularly for some years and then managed to hold the energy at the spiritual eye and feel joy for several months. Then he/she crashed and had a lot of suffering. Does anyone know where that story is?

What is a gurus's blessing?
So many on this therad talk about a Guru's blessing! More or less they say:
"Whitout the Guru's blessing Kriya doesn't work".

I thought a scientific technique works the same at the north or south poles, so to speak. So, what is a Guru's blessing?
I'd really love to know it, can someone really define it?

Also, if the aim of a guru is to spread that technique worldwide, why would it want to withhold "it"? Afraid that it is done in different ways? But if you really do some research you know it was done differently by almost each one of our line of gurus! Go and see this site for some example:

(sorry you might have to cut and paste if the link doesn't work)

Re: What is a gurus's blessing?
a guru's blessing is usually shaktipat. But since noone at SRF gives shaktipat, I don't know what guru's blessings is supposed to be.

also, kevin, the link you gave doesn't work.

Re: What is a gurus's blessing?
In this case it "Guru's blessing" can be read as "it comes from SRF". SRF desperately wants to be seen as the one and ONLY true source of Master's words and their interpretation.

It is their only hold on people and the bad ladies source of power. They rationalize it to people like Vishwananda as "keeping the work safe and pure".
