meditation groups
I've never been to group meditation. Are donations collected in meditation centers in each meditation? If yes, is this money used by for the center or some of it sent to Mother Center?

Re: meditation groups
Yes, donations are collected at the Centers and Group. Mother Center maintains very tight control. Much of the money is sent back to HQ and some of it stays. Money is a prime concern of SRF. They spent more than $8 million on an accounting system a few years ago although they don't even make that much in a year!

I said money was their prime concern. I didn't say they were smart about it.

Re: meditation groups
I was told by the coordinator at the local meditation group, which has a chapel to maintain, that the donations collected at Sunday reading services are used solely for the group's needs. The "offerings" given at commemorative services are sent to SRF headquarters. Occasionally when there is a surplus in their bank account, the managing council decides if they want to make a special donation to headquarters. Sometimes this is in response to a Voluntary League Appeal.

With this understanding I do make small donations at reading services. Crogman, do you think I'm doing the wrong thing?

Re: meditation groups
Groups, Centers, and Temples have different procedures. A lot of money flows to the Mother Center.

I don't know about Crogman1, but I have mixed emotions about supporting SRF in any form. It is like saying I supported the Nazi party in 1943 but didn't approve of what the central party was doing. OK, so it is not that bad but the point is the same. My support of the central SRF party lends more credibility to that party.

On the other hand the future of SRF is in the small groups. The central cult structure will dry up and crumble due to its corruption. The small groups still contain Yogananda’s spirit. In the future most will not be associated with SRF or call themselves SRF. That will end up with a bad name due to what they have tried to do to Yogananda’s work.

The late 20th century will be known as the dark times for Yogananda’s message.

Re: meditation groups
My position is that I don't feel I am supporting SRF but simply the local meditation group--in a small way--which does have expenses. I am using the facility, listening to Yogananda's words of inspiration, meditating with the group, and enjoying the spiritual fellowship. It's natural to want to help support the venture. No one there is being dogmatic (let alone acting like Nazis!), and if I felt Yogananda's spirit and blessings had departed, I would be out of there.

Fair enough. I wish I could find a place like that too!
