The mother of @#%$ strikes again
Hi guys.
That Faye W. received her monastic name not by PY is an interesting story. Who then gave it to her? and when? She could hardly bestow the name on herself, could she? although some weird stuff has indeed happened on the compassionate mountain.
I also heard about some shankaracharya who came to MC to recognize her (CERTAINLY not as a God-realized spiritual leader!) as member of the swami order. Ananda has some stories about the notorious falsifications of Master's signature and other things being the result of some kind entente cordiale. Anyone can second that?

Names and signatures
Concerning when Faye and the others got their new Mata names, it was after they took charge. They probably had the BOD give them out but I have never seen that written. Remember that the leader of SRF will always be Realized (common legend that is NOT true pub78.ezboard.com/fsrfwal...=13.topic) so a new name is the least of what they were given by their election to the BOD and presidency. :)

Concerning the other stuff, yes there have been some weird decisions on signatures and photo changes. These are minor things in the big picture but they are one more indication of what they think of the mentality, intelligence, and maturity of discipleship of most of the members of SRF. Since their views are probably a projection of their own mentality, intelligence, and maturity of discipleship these actions are very revealing!

Re: Names and Signatures
From what I've heard, all the matas and monks who were taking final vows chose their spiritual names from a list of Sanskrit names that someone had come up with. Faye looked briefly at the list, then pointed her finger at what looked like the shortest name on it, which turned out to be "daya," which, by the way, doesn't mean compassion, but kindness. "Karuna" is the Sanskrit word for compassion, I believe.

Re: Names and Signatures
from dictionary of sanskrit names compiled by the integral yoga institute

p. 35 daya(f) Mercy, compassion. See the Bhagavad Gita XVI:2

From the Student's english-sanskrit dictionary by Vaman Shivram Apte

Compassion - the first of six sanskrit words for this is daya.
the fifth of the six sanskrit words for this is karuna.

Kind - the first sanskrit word listed is dayalu

So, maybe the sanskrit root which may be 'da' means both compassion and kindness.

Did you know that the sanskrit root that seems to have the most different meanings is 'kri', which is where the word kriya comes from.

Re: Names and signatures
In the March/April 1953 SRF magazine, there's an item noting that Rajasi and Dr. Lewis conducted the Christmas meditation for the monks in Encinitas and Sister Daya conducted same for the nuns at Mt. Washington. So however that naming process was done, presumably it was with Rajasi's approval. Wholesale name-changing had not taken place as yet, as I noticed others mentioned with their pre-monastic names, such as Vera Brown (later to be Meera Mata.)

It was announced in a later magazine, Nov/Dec 1959, that as Sister Daya was called Dayamata during her trip in India, it would seem "fitting" that she be referred to henceforth as Sister Dayamata. Then in fairly short order, the sister part was dropped for her and other senior nuns in favor of the present naming standard.

Re: Names and Signatures
I think I read that Durga Ma initiated Faye and others into Kriya after Yoganada died.

Has anyone else read that?

We at least know that she didnt get vows from PY.
Kind of strange that she is presented as a "chosen one" when she didnt get Kriya or vows from Yogananda.

Durga Ma should have taken over after Rajarsi. THEN SRF would have stayed truer to the teachings.

But she was too humble and selfless to want the power. Somone who wanted it got it.
