Even More Firings - consultants this time
We have had yet another firing at Mother Center (May 15 to 17 or so). This time two of the PeopleSoft Accounting consultants were terminated. These two earned more than $2 million between them over five years they were at SRF, maybe closer to $3 million. What a great use of member donations.

The weird SRF environment of course processed this in their usual way. After trusting these two to the point that the bad ladies followed them into a 5 year $10 million dollar project they terminated them without warning. Even their boss had no idea they were being terminated. I suspect that even with your eyes closed you could tell this was being done at SRF!

At least that accounting system nightmare is finally over. That was a terrible thing for the organization to endure. Or is it over? Let’s take an accounting of the carnage this nightmare has had on the organization.

:) Uma Mata was generally discovered to be lacking in leadership so she was replaced as general manager. One less “direct disciple” to respect and lead the organization. I had always understood that one day she would lead SRF.

:) The computer department, which for years was considered to be one of the better functioning departments, was completely gutted. All the monastics were driven out and several employees fired. The rest demoralized. Non-members are becoming more of an influence in SRF as a result.

:) The money will of course never be recovered. Other projects are now hurting due to a financial crisis within SRF. Most estimates put the waste at over $12 million for a computer system replacing a small $10,000 system.

:) The computer system is still installed, or at least part of it. I understand that of the 10 components purchased 5 years ago only about 4 were even ever installed. Of course what do you expect for $12 million? This system is a drain on the finances of SRF since it is expensive to maintain, and slows down everything it touches.

:) I understand that outside consultants have been brought in to fix the situation. More outside people. SRF considers anyone working their to be lacking in any skills. Nothing has really changed.

Can anyone else list other things caused by this messy project?

I really have to ask why are so many people being terminated at SRF? Does anyone else work at a company where so many people get fired? What the hell is going on at that place?

It is also generally believed that these two fired consultants got a generous termination fee writen into their contract. They may have each received $50,000 or so. Since that poor women fired a few weeks ago received about $800, this doesn't seem fair does it? What are these compasionate SRF managers thinking?

Another thing:

:) The disruption of this project indirectly caused the distruction of the Monks Spiritual Life Committee. This single act dashed the hopes of many monastics that SRF would really transform itself into a religious organization. As a result many left the order. It also halted the "careers" of those involved in that committee doing further real damage to SRF.

Consultants fired this time
Good riddens!

See MSNBC post below:

WASHINGTON, May 20 — The Securities and Exchange Commission on Monday accused accounting giant Ernst & Young of violating auditor independence rules by having a joint business relationship with PeopleSoft Inc.

How do you spell collusion? (or is it confusion...)

Pretty stupid
When you look up the word GULIBLE in the dictionary it lists the names of each of the matas as examples. Ernst and Young, who we now find had a financial interest in the outcome, recommended a $10 million dollar accounting system to replace the $10,000 system SRF had been using. How stupid do you have to be to think that is necessary?

Pretty stupid.

18 months ago Management asked for an accounting of the costs of the massive PeopleSoft project. It was originally budgeted for $1.5 million and management wanted to know how the money was spent. Ernst and Young was called in (duh) to audit the project. They said it was going OK and meeting budget.

They had six outside consultants working on the project. Three of them were making over $230,000/year, one much more than that. Given the four years of the project up to that point times the three people times the yearly salary and what do we get? $2.8 million. SRF may have gotten the software for free and the other three consultants may have worked for free, but still the cost can’t have been under $1.5 million. How stupid do you have to be to call in the firm that setup the whole thing to determine the success of it? And how stupid to you have to be at math to believe the results?

Pretty stupid.
