Monk's Spiritual Life Committee
What can we do to help? During the March/April 2001 massacre where they fired several employees and killed the Monk’s Spiritual Life Committee we could have seen more courage shown by some. The Spiritual Life Committee (SLC) was formed a few years ago to start to address many of the issues being discussed here including the poor treatment of monastics and employees and the really poor environment for spiritual growth inside SRF. They were discussing how to resolve things and making recommendations for positive change. It was felt by most that this was a real force for positive change in the near future.

This all ended when this committee suddenly dissolved the committee due to the fears of Management. Bro. Satyananda was then put in charge of a place holder group called the same thing, effectively doing away with the pressure to change and improve things.

I feel one act of courage could have been Satya’s refusal to go along. His acceptance allowed those doing this to claim they were just changing the committee. They used his position and reputation as a cover for their actions. A pretty thin cover, but a cover. If Satya had shown more courage, and more concern for the welfare of his fellow monastics and SRF employees, he could have refused and forced them to take more drastic and obvious actions. (Remember Nixon’s Saturday night massacre?)

The more people cooperate the longer these things will go on and the worse they will get.

The result has been more and more monastics leaving. What is the count up to now? 27 in the last few months? Satya may have been able to start real change. As it is he may be the only one left soon. How was that serving SRF? Did he really feel dissolving the committee was the right thing to do? Or did he feel bad about it, but felt he was being loyal?

Brings up some interesting questions concerning loyalty doesn’t it?

Monk's Committee
So has the new (Satya) Monk's Committee been having meetings since March when the original committee was crushed? Have they been working for improvement in the environment for the monks?

Committee dissolved?
This is extremely disheartening news. I have distanced myself from the "organization" after I was asked to leave an ashram after being inside for 5 years. Afterwards I was told (I was told) that I would not be allowed to be employed or serve anywhere in SRF. Anywhere in any capacity. I learned of the SLC years ago and some monastics kept me informed about the workings. The SLC was making great strides from what I'd been told. I also heard of Satyananda's Monks' Personnel battling the SLC. An usurption of power. Now the SLC is gone and it would appear that things are back to "normal". I wish there was a forum entitled Hidden Valley because I think that if former residents and others reveiled what had been taking place there it would make Ananda look like child's play. :(

That is exactly the kind of thing that bugs me. How could they ask you to stay away from the temples? Ask you not to serve? Is that treating you like a fellow disciple?

Not cooperate with wrong doing?
Gandhi would be proud! Since part of his ashes are with us at Lake Shrine maybe this is fitting!

Non-cooperation. Sounds like a plan.

Even the meditation held at Mother Center to express concern for the work freaked them out. Non-cooperation in the temples and centers would panic them!

A PETITION LIST
Thanks KS for your idea of non-cooperation

This is what I have been looking for. It is the right strategy. But we need to increase the non cooperation movement, until the BOD is willing to accept certain changes.
Let us create a list of petitions....
To all of you, what would you ask?
Also, any idea on how we can we increase the SRF Satyagraha movement. From my part, I resign to my committee in one of the temples right now -- no more volunteer service to SRF. How can we increase these force? Any ideas?
