I fell into conversation today with a somewhat elderly man whom I have often greeted at the beach and with whom I have occasionally exchanged small talk. He was curious why I was driving a white van. I told him that my car had been hit and that the van was all that was available at the rental agency because someone over the weekend had driven into all the cars in the lot and even set fire to one of them. This has happened to other rental agencies as well. We talked about other problems on this beautiful island. The ice epidemic, with its massive attendant crime, exacerbated by police raids on marijuana crops. Two million dollars worth of vehicles stolen monthly, of which half is never recovered. We parted company and then met up again and fell into stride together along the beach. What did he do for a living? This and that. Taught kung fu. This is hard to believe. He is a gentle-looking man, whose long grey beard and hair, and soft brown eyes give him the appearance of a Hindu saint. How much did he actually practice? Oh, one or two hours a day. How would he rate himself? I'm off the scale. I am flabbergasted. Off the scale? Yes. I work with energy. You can use it both ways. To kill or to heal. It is all about self-control. I pray to God every day that I may never have to use my lethal skills. Presently I have only one student, who is very highly advanced and who is preparing to come to the island to study with me full time. But as he was telling me this I noticed that he could not take his eyes off a woman stretched out on the sand in the distance. It was for this reason, in fact, that I had always kept my distance from him. He was too obviously attracted to my wife. Not offensively. But unmistakably.

I changed the subject. Didn't he think that the world was headed for catastrophe? Most definitely. It will happen 2012 or 13. The Mayan Calendar. The numbers. Twelve is the Hangman. Thirteen is Death. It will be terrible, perhaps a third of the population will survive. We're seeing the beginning of it now with the tsunami and the hurricanes. Japan will sink, as will the American coasts, and the continent will split in two. It will be the great cleansing. Do not fear. You and your beautiful wife will be protected.

Universes come and go. All worlds come to an end. Sex never dies.

Will there be Sex after 2013 ?
