I wouldn't get my hopes up, however, because "Non-Gold Communities are not routinely backed up. However, we have data from about 4,000 Non-Gold Communities and we may be able to restore additional Non-Gold Communities from RAM. No promises, but we are trying everything." I seriously doubt that the Walrus is a "gold" community (I think they pay money to EZBoard), so it looks like there's a pretty good chance that we've just lost a whole chunk of the Walrus forever. Personally, I am now backing up anything I care about on the Walrus, at least any of my new posts, so that we can do our own restoration if necessary. I highly recommend that others do the same.

Did you have to go one thread at a time, or is there a more efficient way to do it? If so, we should do so on a regular basis. I know I'm being paranoid, but it seems that most of the stuff that was deleted was stuff that I was involved with. I'd love to hear from others on the board whether they lost posts or not. Looks like the entire Mitrananda thread is gone, which is a big loss. Also gone is my post on Oliver Black, and the SRF's God-damned hypocrisy of laying people off and denying them raises while simultaneously purchasing a very pricey piece of storefront property in Encinitas. My comments on Ananda Mata, or rather her eulogy which seemed like propaganda to me, are also missing. I rather liked that piece I did, and it cheeses me off that it's gone missing. Well, I'd love to see how much you can restore.

I made a back-up twice or so because I read sooo incredibly much valuable information about what people experienced over the years in and around SRF, and being a Web programmer, I'm quite aware of the vulnarability of a website. That's what made me make a full back-up of the board. To copy a browsable copy of a website to your harddisk, one may use Teleport www.ddplus.net/web/site/S...t_Pro.aspx but there may be more and even better software. Anyway, I used Teleport, although yesterday it did not work, maybe because of the oblogatory log-in, although Teleport has an option for that. I'll try again sometime.
