we keep you alive to serve our agenda . . .
Quintus Arrius, (character in the 1959 flick Ben-Hur):
"Now listen to me, all of you. You are all condemned men.
We keep you alive to serve this ship.
So row well, and live!"

Can you imagine BOD members saying something similar to postulants??? Ha Ha Ha ( joke)

You are condemned to samsara. We keep you alive to serve our agenda, so serve well (row like hell) and don't ask probing questions! (joke)

Quotes...
"Even the striving after progress contributes to the sum total of human suffering. To effect change is to undermine the painfully established traditional order whereby the distress of living creatures was reduced to a minimum." Teilhard

"They knew what they didn't love, they just hadn't found out what the did love..." John Fowles (The Magus)

"With wanton heed and giddy cunning, the Melting Voice through mazes running, untwisting all the chains that tie the hidden soul from harmony..." John Milton (L'Allegro)

"Come and trip it as you go, on the light fantastic-toe" John Milton (L'Allegro)

"The vision of Christ that thou dost see is my visions greatest enemy. Thine has a hook nose, like to thine, mine has a turned up nose like mine..." Wm. Blake

"What suffers?" Ramana Maharshi (to PY)

Re: Great Quotes
Martin Luther King also said:

"Cowardice asks the question - is it safe? Expediency asks the question - is it politic? Vanity asks the question - is it popular? But conscience asks the question - is it right? And there comes a time when one must take a position that is neither safe, nor politic, nor popular; but one must take it BECAUSE it is right."
---

"One of the great liabilities of history is that all too many people fail to remain awake through great periods of social change. Every society has its protectors of the status quo and its fraternities of the indifferent who are notorious for sleeping through revolutions. But today our very survival depends on our ability to stay awake, to adjust to new ideas, to remain vigilant and to face the challenge of change."

Re: Great Quotes
Willy1080/ I have never seen this quote before and I have read all the books on talks by Nisargadatta. Could you please quote your source: The title of the book, the page and the author. ( like Jean Dunn or Robert Powell so on) Thank you.

Re: Great Quotes
Well it looks like I can answer my own question. In the book edited by Jean Dunn : "Consciousness and the Absolute - the final talks of Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj page 100 he says" I do not want meek and humble disciples, I want them to be powerful, as I am. I do not make disciples, I make Gurus." Here is another great quote by Maharaj from "I Am That" page 107 " Learn to live without self-concern. For this you must know your own true Being as indomitable, fearless, ever victorious. Once you know with absolute certainty that nothing can trouble you but your own imagination you come to disregard your desires and fears, concepts and ideas and live by truth alone."

Re: Great Quotes
“Each time a man stands up for an ideal, or acts to improve the lot of others, or strikes out against injustice, he sends forth a tiny ripple of hope, and crossing each other from a million different centers of energy and daring those ripples build a current which can sweep down the mightiest walls of oppression and resistance." –Robert F. Kennedy, South Africa, 1966

“Unthinking respect for authority is the greatest enemy of truth.” - Albert Einstein

"Democracy is not a state in which people act like sheep." - M.K. Gandhi
