Talk to Monastic
I would like to discuss some of these ideas and my doubts with a monastic. Which are open to these kinds of discussions?

Who to talk to?
You can always talk to Bro. Bhaktananda. He has heard everything and is sympathetic to what is going on with monastics, employees and members.

Mukti Mata is also great. She recently told me a story:

She gave a satsang to the nuns and some controversial questions came up, which she answered on the spot. She didn't know what the questions would be beforehand. After the satsang, one of the nuns came up to her and said, "Some of the questions were inappropriate, weren't they?". Mukti Mata said, "If those questions are on the nuns' minds then they are not inappropriate and should be addressed and brought out in the open."

When one talks to a monastic, I don’t care who it is, one has to remember this. Our ability to say no to something is directly proportional to our ability to be self-sufficient.

i.e. Before women were allowed to hold jobs in society the only way a woman could survive was to marry. Thus woman had to put up with a lot of junk from men, because of their dependency on men. Because women now have the ability to be self-sufficient, she now has the choice to say no to men.

This is also true for ashram or corporate structure. If ones lively hood and goals are dependent on a force outside ones self, then one has to prostitute their values if those values are in opposition to the one that is supporting them.

So if a monk or nun agrees that what SRF is doing is out of line, it will be vary hard for them to be truthful or objective to any opinion contrary to the corporate line of thinking.
Make no bones about it, Bro Bhaktananda and Mukti Mata are both corporate people. Realistically, where would they go? How would they support themselves at their age if they were asked to leave? That does not mean that they are not caring or understanding. It just means that their caring and understanding are limited and can only go as far as corporate policy dictates.

Many of us are guilty of this same behavior. It is not peculiar to monk or nuns. We see this all the time in corporate America. Just look at the work place. Notice how people turn there heads the other way when they see something that they do not agree with. Don’t rock the boat, keep status quo, and you can keep your job. Speak out and you’re considered a trouble-maker and will be asked to leave.

With this in mind, take with a grain of salt what any monk or nun has to say about SRF.

It is not realistic or fair to ourselves or to monks and nuns to expect them to be the perfect ones that we are not. Remember that they are just like we are striving in our very unperfect way to be the best we can.
