Talking to Friends - Monastics Leaving
I spent some time with a devotee friend today and the subject of all the monastics leaving came up. He said he guessed “they just had desires” and guesses the ones that are left “are just keeping to the straight and narrow”. This guy works for SRF and sees what is happening and still doesn’t know. I could not hold my tongue.

I said that the idea that they leave due to “desires” or because they have failed is really upsetting to me. He was surprised. On it went. I asked him some pretty pointed questions and told him of some of the abusive treatment, and who was doing it. He was shocked and just got quiet. I am sure he refuses to see it.

We lose friends for a lot of reasons. These problems are pushing a wedge between those that see and those who don’t want to see.

Damn those matas for what they have done to SRF and the environment they have created.

Denial
Your friend is probably in denial and may be fearful, too. I say this for several reasons.

1. You stated that he sees what is happening and still doesn't know. I don't think so. He's made a conscious choice to remain ignorant. His problem. Not yours. The denial that there is, or could be, significant problems in the organization is also illustrated, in another post, by Laser when his friend's respond "[such-and-such] would not happen if Master didn't want it to happen". Substitute God for Master and any event in the world in the previous statement and it may become more clear. Even the comment about "housecleaning" may be a form of denial.

2. It is hard to step away from an employer who is paying you when the job market may be rather unsettled. If he is comfortable in his job, happy that he has a regular, steady paycheck, and he sees and recognizes problems within the organization, then it is safer to keep quiet. Right? After all, he still get's paid while others may get shot? It's very, very scary to stand up and take a bullet for Truth. Your friend is in his comfort zone.

3. For many, it is tremendously difficult to come to the realization that, after investing so much time and energy in the SRF and Master (or any organization for that matter), that they may have been duped. Well, it is the realization that SRF and Master are different that can clear this up. And some people need an organization or they may feel orphaned. After all, SRF is a family.
