Kriya Yoga In Chicago
First Post, please pardon me if this has been answered elsewhere on this site.

I know longer feel obligated to SRF. I am looking for a place to be given Kriya lessons.

Paramahamsa Hariharananda and his successor Paramahamsa Prajnanananda have a branch in Chicago. That is the closest I can be given the lessons in the Mid-west without waiting for SRF to visit once every 2-3 years.

Do you know anything about Paramahamsa Hariharananda? I see on their website they continue the guru lineage beyond Yogananda.....including Yogananda's childhood friend Swami Satyananda Giri and Shrimat Bhupendranath Sanyal, youngest disciple of Lahiri Mahasaya.

I would greatly appreciate any information you can share on this center and its leadership. Thank You.

Do find compassion
Whether or not you practice kriya your whole life, do find compassion for yourself and others.

Follow your heart and you will have your answer.

Re: Do find compassion
Friend on the PATH.

Thank you very much for taking the time to give such sound advice. Kriya can be a dissecting, cold process of if I understand it correctly. Devotion and love need to be of equal weight on the other end of the scale if I'm following you.

Here is what I hope to accomplish:

I believe Yogananda promoted both Devotion and Kriya in tandem for success.

In one instance a devotee approached to Sri Ramakrishna approached Yogananda saying that after years of devotion he had hit a plateau. Yogananda encouraged him to practice Kriya. Although reluctant at first the devotee eventually tried Kriya and forged a path closer to God.

In a second case both Norman Paulson and Donald Walters site a SRF monk named Jean Haupt. Jean had devoted much time to meditation often in very large blocks of time when available. But he felt he was getting nowhere. Yogananda told him he needed more devotion...more for yearning for God from his heart. Norman and Donald tried to tell him the same. As Norman said "Jean saw meditation as like putting coins in a bank", figuring eventually all the time spent HAD to pay off. But it didn't and Jean eventually left Mt. Washington somewhat bitterly.

So between the two examples I hope to learn from both. Devotion/Kriya. Your advice has reminded me of this goal, thank you.
