On March 10th, SRF announced on their website that they’re canceling the international tours for 2003, citing security concerns regarding large gatherings in hotels, etc… They mention there are no plans at this time to cancel the convocation.

Maybe that’s the reason. Perhaps some other organizations are canceling events as well. A skeptic might ask: could it really be because even though the centers’ are supposed to bear some of the costs, it may not work out that way and SRF doesn’t want to risk incurring any more expenses? Not sure how well attendance will hold up? Or perhaps there’s a shortage of monks to send? Or the dwindling number of ones they trust to spew the party line are tied up doing other things? Or they want to have a lot of scared people from all over the globe urgently calling for advice and comforting? Nothing like a crisis to insure the dependence of the masses upon them again.

See what happens once fibbing starts? You never know from then on what‘s the truth or what they’re trying to spin.

What? Did I miss something in the news, some attack on people at a hotel conference? Or is this as absolutely completely bogus as I suspect?

MAN, I am so glad not to be even tangentially associated with that org anymore.

In fairness, I think this came about as the bombs had started, or were about to start falling in Iraq. Orange alert, state dept. travel warnings, etc. I think in the context of the times it was a reasonable choice.
